Sermon Notes from 16 June 2019

Father’s Day- Soul Priority: Becoming a Real ‘Soul Man’

-adjust your focus in life–from “what I do” to “who I am”

-emphasize Christ above all
–easy to fool ourselves into thinking we are spiritually healthy
–raised in the church but not raised in Christ
–nothing can ever be a substitute for teaching your children how to walk with Jesus
**You as a parent have to live this out!

Mark 8:22-26:

‘And they *came to Bethsaida. And they *brought a blind man to Jesus and *implored Him to touch him. Taking the blind man by the hand, He brought him out of the village; and after spitting on his eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him, “Do you see anything?” And he looked up and said, “I see men, for I see them like trees, walking around.” Then again He laid His hands on his eyes; and he looked intently and was restored, and began to see everything clearly. And He sent him to his home, saying, “Do not even enter the village.” ‘

-Diagnosing a problem in the human condition–a soul that is not healthy is a ruined soul–What is that?
–A soul that is out of sync with God

What to look out for:

-you get out of sync when your soul is neglected
—each generation is more selfish; soul is direct opposite of self; the soul does NOT go away

-a rushed soul becomes weary and shallow
Matthew 11:28-29:

’ “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. ‘

-it’s not about a check list
–Jesus’ yolk is light because he calls us into a RELATIONSHIP
—Faith in Christ is NOT academic! To be in a relationship, you have to talk and listen

-Feed your soul through prayer and scripture

1 Peter 1:8-9

‘…and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls. ‘

What do you want your kids to say about you 30 years from now?
