Old Prayer from 2017

Today I want to share my prayer time that I wrote in my journal while I was pregnant with my son. I hope that this is helpful to anyone who knows somebody who is pregnant or is pregnant themselves.

From 07/24/2017

Lord teach me how to pray.
Lord I thank you for the gift of my life and my ability to come to where you lived. Lord I thank you for the gift of life you have given Mack and me. Although we are both nervous and uncertain about the unknown world of parenting, I am reminded of your words: Be not afraid. Lord I know that you have special plans for this child. I ask that, when you believe the child is right, to show me the joy that this child will gift the world with.

Lord I ask that you fill me with Your grace so that I may be a good parent to this child. I know nothing of what it takes to be a parent and I do not want to fail this child. Lord please show me through the example of my parents and Your holy family how to fully love and demonstrate your unending love to him or her. Lord I know that without You, Mack and I will not be successful. I pray that Mack continues to want to know You more and that he may realize just how much You love him.

I also pray that my parents and Mack’s parents love this child unconditionally and they too are examples of Your unending and unfailing love and mercy and compassion.

Lord, clothe me with strength and dignity and help me to be able to laugh at the days to come. Let me be like Mother Mary who reminds me of Proverbs 31:29 ” Many are the women of proven worth, but you have excelled them all.”

Lord I ask for the courage of Mary: to say yes to motherhood.

But what can I say? And what can I do? But offer this heart, Oh God, completely to you.

Amen.
